As a 4 year pianist I am not very great at sight reading. I chose the mixed notes first but I think that might have been the wrong choice. I overall think this is a good app for beginners but if you are experienced I don’t know. Before getting the app I looked at the reviews and thought “ok” and got it, it’s super easy to use, but it’s not for me.
The microphone feature does not work nearly good enough. Compared to other apps it’s basically unusable at any speed unless playing loud half notes, even on the most sensitive setting.
So far I have loved this app for practicing sight reading. As the app has no ads for its free version, I plan on getting the premium plan to support the developer. The randomized practice notes make help especially well for learning new pieces, and the daily reminder notification is a nice touch. It's a well rounded app for how simple it is, and has helped my sight reading come along way.
Can practice as many times as I want. Changes every time. Very customizable sessions. Love this.
Love this app! So helpful practicing
I had less trouble playing with this app!
I was trying to find an app to practice note flashcards for when I’m not by my piano, and I came across this app. I was thankful to find that the app has exactly what I need and more! Not only does it have notes to practice, but it also has lessons. This app is very useful for pianists and any musicians in general that want to practice even when they’re not with their instruments. With all of the benefits, I was surprised to find that it’s even free! Thank you to who designed this app, I find it very helpful.
I use this any time I am sitting still and doing nothing like driving. It has replaced my social media-wasted time. I am learning well and seeing positive results in just 2 weeks.
Helps me with my skillz I lack
So far this is the best sight reading app for practice that I have found. I like how it add rhythm values there is a lot more to this app than others and it a good value.
I love that I can practice sight reading while I’m away from the piano. Pretty cool! Great app, I recommend.
Not fun at all
Downloaded this app about seven days ago, was using it mainly because it was free and I’m trying to learn how to identify notes by sight reading (did the job well). Was really good until out of nowhere yesterday they add an update where you have to pay premium to “unlock” the rest of the lessons that I was just doing daily, keep in mind- this app was always free and now out of nowhere you have to pay this premium to see all the lessons. D-move. Seeing that premium box pop-up over lessons that I was just doing a day prior was pretty frustrating. Deleting this app and finding a new way to learn.
I love this game so much! It’s the perfect way to learn piano. I had two apps before this one but they didn’t really teach me anything. This one teaches me everything there is to know about piano! If you don’t have this app, get it! 1app for piano!
I was having trouble with sight reading and was starting to think of software I might write to help me out, and was stunned when I found somebody had already written it. This is very well executed, and importantly prevents memorization, which is an issue I had with using songs for sight reading practice.
This app helped me read sheet music super fast in a couple of days but I noticed improvement by day one. I can read all the notes on both bass and treble clef immediately. Thanks so much for this app. Very worth the premium
It shows incorrect notes when using sharps and flats periodically.
Really what I have been looking for in an aid to help my sight reading. Thanks
Sight reading is one of my biggest hurdles and this app helps a lot.
I’ve been playing piano for years and always struggled with sheet music because the acronyms didn’t stick for me… this makes it super easy to practice and memorize the notes for bass and treble! I was able to play pop songs from a songbook (slowly) after a couple days. Gonna keep practicing to improve sight reading skills! Thank you! Also—there are a bunch of free lessons to learn the main notes for the grand staff, but once you learn them there’s a $3 upgrade to get more lessons
The most useful app I’ve ever downloaded.
Perfect for learning to read music. Also a lot of fun!!!
Download this app for purpose of sight reading. I went through all the lessons for treble, bass and both of it together. It definitely helped me out because start off with notes as note names then after getting them correct the next lesson is without note name, so allow you you memorized it. I finished all the required lessons. I’m going buy the full version because I enjoyed this app and it’s very easy to follow the instructions. I recommend it to anyone interested getting better at sight reading or beginners.
I like the learning style that this app provided. It helped me memorizing the notes both reading them and where they are on the piano keyboard. Way much better than the flash cards method. Great value. Thank you for developing this app and make it affordable.
I’ve deleted all of my social media apps and now have this as my only “dopamine hit” app on my phone. In two weeks I’ve gone from under 30 notes per minute to 80+ notes per minute. It is so exciting to feel the improvement each day, and to see it verified statistically with the reports feature. This app is amazing. 6 out of 5 stars. Can’t recommend it enough! Exactly what I was looking for.
You can tell from its straight to the point interface design that it simply wants to teach you something.
Very good
By far the best sight reading app !!!!
I just needed the ability to do drills endlessly without playing actual songs. This app is ideal for this. I can practice a small number of notes over and over until it’s like reading words on a page and then add more and more notes until (some day) I can read the grand staff in real time.
This app is exactly what I needed on all levels. Grateful I can learn the piano in style without a subscription. You tell there was a lot of hard work put into this app. Thank you developers.
Nice app until you hit the paywall 🙄
I’ve seen this app grow from something that was really basic into what it is now. It has been really helpful for me to be able to read music. But I always seem to be able to improve by using this app.
It’s been two days of use and I can already read the bass clef better than before!! Highly recommend.
I've only done 28% of the Treble Clef lessons, but I'm hooked. My childhood piano lesson knowledge is slowly coming back. This is such a great learning tool! Thanks for the great app, Ryan! The little I've practiced so far is easily worth the $2.99 I paid for the Premium version.
A really excellent app that has greatly improved my sight reading skills. I like that the main screen emulates real sheet music. I enjoy playing the songs. I think a cool future feature would be to add the capability to import songs - perhaps MusicXML. Thanks!
I love this apps to practice the notes. It really helps me to memorize the music notes. Thank you so much.
Good app but at some point when learn treble lower notes they became covered by virtual keyboard so I can’t pass those lessons. Pls fix it
Nice app to help yo reinforce scales
Challenging to keep up. Learning a lot using MIDI thru IPad. I wish it had more beginner songs to challenge me.
As a bassist trying to learn the bass clef this app is just what I needed to help me get the notes down. It’s really helping improve my familiarity with the notes as well as my sight reading skill. This app is easy to use, super helpful, and all around just what I was looking for and to top it off it’s free to use. Not much more I could ask for from it.
I have always loved the panio, but I have never really been that great at sight reading notes. After a search on the App Store, I discovered this app. It’s nice and simple. You can choose from the Bass clef, treble clef, and grand staff. Then, you can customize the range you want to review. Plus, lessons on all of the clefs as well. Also, you can set a daily note goal so you can study at your own pace. There’s also a few songs you can play. My only complaint is that there isn’t a ton of lessons, and only a few songs. However the developer has plans to improve this app. Excited to see this app improve!
This app is great! I was looking for something exactly like this to help me improve my sight reading. Everything is FREE which is the best part. One thing is that you can’t hear the notes when you press them. I wonder is this is just on my end or what? Besides that, 5 stars.
Extremely inconvenient to require both hands when wanting to quickly open up an app to do some training during small windows of opportunity. What an odd design choice.
Should start with the staff, EGBDF and FACE like every other method of teaching music.
This app truly helps with learning to read notes on the staff and I can’t recommend it enough. Hope to see the developers keep adding more content and I’d gladly pay for new content if need be
Perfect
This is one of the best apps I’ve used to study notes. I only sing but I’m trying to learn notes and this is fantastic. You will learn how to use a piano in the process, which is key to making sure you learn to sing in tune. My only objection is that the lessons do NOT include training on sharps & flats. I was hoping the in app purchase for additional lessons (happens after you’ve learned quite a lot, no worries) included this, and there’s no info given on what these lessons contain, only that “more will be added”. The practice mode thankfully does allow you to train flats but not in an organized, piece by piece way like the lessons do. But unfortunately you cannot see flats and sharps labeled on the keys like the other ones. I have to knock off a star… sharps and flats are a big part of the music that I do and so this app didn’t teach me everything I wanted to know.
That is all.
I used this app in my music lessons years ago. I’m the shuffle of life, I forgot I had it. Upon re-finding it, I’m happy to see how much better it’s gotten. And I see it’s still free and doesn’t track your data. This app is amazing. Get it for your classroom or your kiddos taking music lessons.
